Job Description

A leading Islamic Bank in Pakistan is seeking an experienced Senior Management professional to lead its Sanctions Screening Unit, with the position offered up to Vice President (VP) grade.

The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership for sanctions screening activities, ensuring effective management of sanctions risks, screening systems, alerts, escalations, governance, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Sanctions Screening Unit and its day-to-day operations.
  • Oversee sanctions screening and transaction-monitoring activities.
  • Ensure effective screening against applicable OFAC, UN, EU, and other relevant sanctions regimes.
  • Review and manage sanctions alerts, investigations, escalations, and disposition processes.
  • Develop and strengthen sanctions risk assessment and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable AML/CFT and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of sanctions screening systems, rules, scenarios, and controls.
  • Establish and maintain robust escalation and investigation procedures.
  • Support regulatory examinations, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate sanctions-related policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Identify emerging sanctions risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Provide senior-management reporting and sanctions risk insights.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing sanctions screening team.
  • Stay updated on changes to international sanctions regimes and regulatory expectations.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience in sanctions screening, AML/CFT, financial crime compliance, transaction monitoring, or a closely related field.
  • Strong expertise in international sanctions regimes, particularly OFAC, UN, and EU sanctions.
  • Extensive knowledge of sanctions screening and transaction-monitoring systems.
  • Strong understanding of AML/CFT regulatory requirements and internal control frameworks.
  • Proven experience in sanctions risk assessment and governance.
  • Strong leadership and team-management capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Senior-level banking or financial-services compliance experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience within an Islamic banking environment would be advantageous.
